Summer Information

If your instrument needs tuning or repair, you can take it to Paige’s anytime. They will tune it for free, and will discuss any potential costs on repairs.

There are many summer string camps around the central Indiana area:

• NEW this year – the four Junior Highs here at HSE are running a Summer Strings Camp! This is just a fun way to improve your skills, meet other HSE string students, and keep up your playing chops. You can find more information here:
• Butler University has a few string camps, and a bass-only camp: Butler Summer Music Camps
• Anderson University is hosting two weeks of StringFest camps: Anderson University StringFest
• Indiana University has a more intensive string camp: IU String Academy
• There is the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Greater Indy (not sure if registration is still open, but worth checking!): SYOGI
• Looking for a sleep-away option? Check out Blue Lake: Blue Lake Summer Strings

 

And even if you don’t want to attend a camp, there are still opportunities to continue playing!

• Take summer lessons! Many teachers are offering lessons this summer, and some even have extended availability due to the situation!

• Find new and fun music to play!
  • Check out JW Pepper for books of pop music, movie music, and more.
  • If you use google: use keywords like easy, beginning, sheet music, free, and the name of your instruments. Know that a lot of what you are looking for is still under copyright law, and so will cost a few dollars. Artists deserve to be paid, too.
• Really love orchestra? Audition for the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra for next school year!
